This is from a German edition published by Goldmann in 1979. I think the figure on the cover is a diver, as there are bubbles in the yellowish water behind him. I don’t think this cover really captures the Victorian flavour or the humour of the book.
I thought it would be fun to post a cover from A Transatlantic Tunnel, Hurrah! on the fourth of July…

By the way “Der große Tunnel” simply means “The great tunnel”.
